Have a good laugh with Indu’s latest!

By Salma Yusuf

Indu Dharmasena's hilarious new comedy "Money Makes the World Go Round" hits the Lionel Wendt on November 18th and 19th and again on the 24th, 25th and 26th.

The story revolves around the colourful character of Charlotte, disowned by her family because she eloped with Nissanka Balasuriya, a penniless artist.

Charlotte and Nissanka thus went abroad with their little daughter, Henrietta, in search of greener pastures.

Now after 30 years Mahen, the only cousin who has ever met Henrietta, receives a letter from her to say she is coming down to Sri Lanka and would like to meet up with all her cousins. But his wife is not thrilled with the idea of entertaining "a cheap, go-go dancer" in their house so he is forced to ask his cousins if Henrietta can stay with one of them. They all refuse.

But when word gets around that Henrietta has made a lot of money in show business but is suffering from a serious illness and wants to meet a good lawyer while in Sri Lanka to write her will, the situation alters.

Then the not so lucky politician Mahen and his bossy wife Priya, Nilu the social butterfly who always lives beyond her means, the officious Hiran and his arty and eccentric wife Patsy, young Surath who is always looking for investors for his numerous business ventures and Roshi the young corporate executive who is soon to be married, are all now more than willing to have Henrietta come and stay with them.

So with first cousins, second cousins, the multi purpose Burampi, - Henrietta's not-so -posh cousin from her father's side, -Girly and her son, Sonny, not to mention the two lawyers, Dunstan and Ranjan, the run for money begins…

The dazzling Koluu plays Henrietta Balasuriya. Veteran Angela Seneviratne brings to life the role of Nilu while Mahen is played by Indu and his wife Priya is played by Sanwada Abeysirigunawardena. Hiran is played by George Cooke and his wife Patsy is played by Sanju Selvarajah. Danu is Surath while young Kaushali Britto takes the role of Roshi. Burampi is played by Shohan Chandiram, Girlie Hulungwatta by Harendra and her son, Sonny by Ishkey Irshard. Lawyers Dunstan and Ranjan are played by Abbasali Rozais and Anushan Selvarajah respectively. Michael Holsinger makes a cameo appearance as the dashing Marlon Brando.

Don't miss this rib tickling comedy that will provide the whole family with an evening's entertainment.

Box plan is open at the Wendt.
