Articles relating to the Royal Colombo Golf Club Chamopionship

We refer to the articles that appeared in the Sports Page of The Sunday Times of 5th November 06 written by Mr. Tita Nathanielsz on the above subject.

We noted that Mr. Nathanielsz has stated that one of our participants Mr. Nirmal Hettiarachchi had given a walkover to the ultimate winner Mithun Perera for some “Unknown” reason.

This is factually incorrect. At no time did Mr. Hettiarachchi give a walkover to Mithun Perera.

He played and lost the match as many others did. Despite him having brought to the notice of Mr. Nathanielsz this fact subsequent to the article of the 26th and whereas Mr. Nathanielsz naturally would have had access to the copy of the results sheet obviously needed for accurate reporting, we are unable to comprehend the reason for this repeated unwarranted and unsavoury comment concerning Mr. Nirmal Hetiarachchi who has rightly taken great exception towards it.
