Poem for the week |
The country I like to visit
A country I like to visit is France because I can visit Disneyland. I can enjoy many rides, such as ‘It's a small World’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean.’ Also I can take a picture with Mickey Mouse. Disneyland is called the 'Happiest Place on Earth.'
I like to go up the Eiffel Tower too. Then I can have a nice view of the city of Paris.
You can visit the Louvre Museum where you will be able to see the Mona Lisa painting. It is nice to go on a cruise on the River Seine and see beautiful old bridges and buildings.

My mother
My mother I know is pretty,
But she is blind.
She takes me to the big city,
Whenever she has the time.
She loves me more than anyone else,
I wish I could see her face.
She gives me everything I need,
We are one of a kind indeed.
She teaches me to sing and praise the Lord,
And advises me on the ways of the world.
Day in and day out I sit and wait for her return,
Bringing back what little she has earned.
"Go to sleep my little angel," she says,
"Tomorrow may be a better day."

I like to be a bird
I like to be a bird
And fly up in the sky
Over houses
Over trees
Over rivers
And the seas
Higher and higher
Far and far
I would fly
Singing my merry song
Then I would remember
My mum and dad
And my sister
In my nest
I would long
To fly back home
Into my nest
Before the sun is set
Then I would sleep
Sleep and dream
In my cosy nest
Till dawn of day

Recess
Our school is a day school. Its working hours are from 7.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. We have eight periods of study. There is a 30 minute recess from 10 to 10.30 a.m. As soon as the recess bell rings, the calm of the school is broken.
There is noise everywhere. Some students rush down the stairs pushing each other to reach the canteen first. Others can be seen sitting in their classrooms and gobbling up their food. The younger ones can be seen roaming about eating their lunch.
Many students go straight to the playground, others join them after finishing their lunch. The playground gets crowded and hardly any game is possible, yet students manage to play.
Soon the lunchtime is over and the bell rings. Children quickly get back to their classes and then the school becomes quiet again. Recess is the best part of the school day. Students and teachers, all enjoy it!

I'm the National Flag of Sri Lanka
I'm the National Flag of Sri Lanka. I fly high on the pole in the gentle breeze and I can see my country. There is a lion carrying a sword in me for bravery. The four ‘Bo’ leaves symbolise the virtues found in the religions of my country. The yellow border around me symbolises the unity and integrity found among my nation’s people. The red background represents the Sinhala community. The orange strip represents the Tamil community and the green strip represents the Muslim community.
I fly at half-mast during days of national mourning. I am laid in caskets of state heads and distinguished leaders. People hoist me on Independence Day, at national conferences, meetings and sports festivals etc. When I'm hoisted during Independence Day, people stand to attention and face me. I am really proud to be the National Flag of my country.

A trip on A380
A few months ago, we visited Singapore for a holiday. As I haven't been on a plane, it was my first trip. I enjoyed it a lot during the trip. I made a scrap book about the things we did and the kindness of the staff of Singapore Airlines and sent it to the airline office in Singapore.
After about two or three weeks later, I received a gift pack from Singapore Airlines. Everyone was so inquisitive to see what was inside. I undid it very carefully for it was wrapped neatly.
How perfectly amazing! It was splendid because it was sent by the Vice President of Singapore Airlines. The present was the model of the biggest airbus in the whole world wide, an ‘A 380.’ I was so happy and kept the box beside my pillow and went to sleep.
That night I had a magnificent dream. I was sitting on the plane and flying through the clouds, over the stars, under the moon, over golden mountains, high above silver rivers and finally reached a lovely toyland of planes. I touched the ground with a big bump which ended my whole dream world.

A pleasant
One day I thought,
Of having a walk from school
So I asked my sister,
And she screamed 'cool!'
We passed the grocer,
And looked at our purse.
'Shall we have an ice-cream?'
'No, my cold will get worse.'
On the way we saw,
A mango tree
We shot some stones
But only got three!
With jolly good moments,
We passed our time
'Will you two come?'
'It is nearly supper time.'

Excuses
How can I do history,
When Queen Mary's at war
With my pages?
How can I do geography,
When my papers are eroding
And weathering?
How can I finish science,
When my book is in the air
Filled with helium?
How can I do maths,
When my graphs have run
Away with the numbers?
Excuse me, for missing English,
There was a one-day cricket match,
Between the proverbs and verbs!

Rhinoceros
The rhinoceros is the second largest animal living in the land. It is a herbivorous animal. A well grown rhinoceros is two metres tall, four metres long and 3,000 kilograms in weight. They live in countries like Africa, Nepal and India.
Many rhinos live in the Savana meadows in Africa. They wallow in mud during the day to keep themselves cool. People kill rhinos to take the horn because powdered rhino horn is a valuable medicine.
We must try to
protect rhinos.

Deepavali Festival
The Deepavali Festival is a festival of light. Hindus all over the world celebrate the Deepavali Festival. People believe that God Krishnan killed evil Naragasuran and bought joy and peace to the world.
We rise up early in the morning, have an oil bath and go to the temple. Then we come home and have a small pooja. Mothers make lots of sweets and exchange with our relatives and friends. We light fireworks and our parents light lamps. It is a very happy festival for Hindus.
