Appointed Navy Chief of Staff
The President has appointed Rear Admiral Nandana Thuduwewatte as
the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Navy with effect from October
30, 2006, in addition to his present duties as Commander-Kotelawala
Defence Academy.
He joined the Navy in 1971, and with 35 years
of service behind him, he has a wide range of experience. Presently
he is functioning as the vice chancellor- commandant of the only
tri service defence university of Sri Lanka- the General Sir John
Kotelawala Defence Academy. (to be renamed Defence University in
the near future). Commander Northern Naval Area, Commander Western
Naval Area and Director Naval Operations are some of the important
positions held by him previously.
He is a specialist navigator and has graduated
from the prestigious Naval Defence College of India holding a degree
in defence studies. He is also an executive member of the Olympic
Committee and has taken part in an administrative capacity in world
sports events like the 1998 Asian Games and the 2000 Olympic Games.
He is also a Justice of Peace (All Island). He was awarded the Rana
Soora Padakkama twice and ten other medals as service/merit/campaign
awards.
