Greehhill International, Kandy’s newest school
Kandy’s newest English medium school Greenhill International admitted its first batch of pupils in September this year at “Asoka Gardens”, Vidyartha Mawatha.
The school is located on a spacious five acre campus with facilities providing pupils and staff with a modern school to meet the needs of the 21st century, a press release from the school, said.
“Greenhill commits itself in creating a happy, safe and caring environment in which all pupils are encouraged to achieve their maximum potential in terms of skills, knowledge and understanding. The school’s education system places emphasis in discipline, academic excellence, as on sports and extra – curricular activities in the framework of a broad and balanced curriculum,” it said.
Steering the school is Lt. Col. Leonard de Alwis, an eminent educationist, whose distinguished career includes the Principalships of Trinity College, Kandy; The City School in Pakistan; and Springfield College, Kandy.
Greenhill is a co-educational English medium school with a highly qualified and experienced teaching faculty. The curriculum is innovative and well balanced and is based on the British and local syllabns in the English medium. Classes begin from the nursery to London and local O/L and A/L.
Apart from the traditional emphasis on core-subjects, the curriculum offers teaching of Sinhala/Tamil as a second language, Religion, Information Technology, Music, Art, Hand-work, Dancing and Physical Education. The students will have maximum opportunities to develop their talents and skills in sports, performing arts and allied areas of interest. Regular sports, dramatic and musical events will take place throughout the year. Educational excursions and field trips are arranged regularly.

Its academic programme is well planned and is geared towards quality education. In the Kindergarten the curriculum aims at imparting knowledge through activities and creativity, by encouraging the children in an enjoyable learning environment, to develop attitudes, skills and ideas that lead to a life time of creative thinking and learning. The Primary programme emphasises on “ Whole child development”, and provides a wide range of subjects which includes art and crafts as well. At the middle level, the curriculum recognises the importance of the middle years of schooling to a student’s overall growth and development, and prepares students with skills and knowledge for secondary education. At the secondary and higher levels of education the curriculum will include study courses in Science , Mathematics, Business Studies, Information Technology and Languages, which would lead the students to pursue further education in Universities and higher institutions of education.
Next year in accordance with the School’s education extension programme, “ Greenhill Institute of Higher Education “ will be established. The Institute will conduct external Diploma courses in affiliation with foreign institutes of higher education and Universities. It will also conduct IELTS and English courses; special classes in Spoken English, Elocution and A/L subjects.
