Peradeniya town shift takes a backseat

The damage caused by the incessant rains in the Peradeniya region is being currently repaired with commencement of restoration work. The RDA is busy removing the rubble caused by earth slips plans to construct a rock fence along the main highway.
Transmission towers atop mountains have been relocated in the valley while hoardings too were being relocated. The original idea to move the town to new surroundings has now taken a back seat but would be considered in the near future.
The road around Gannoruwa accessing the highway which had been closed for the last three weeks has now been reopened and vehicles rerouted via Gatambe and Gannoruwa to Colombo and via Peradeniya to Gampola.
Restoration work commenced after inspection by a team headed by Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe last Friday issued orders to expedite rehabilitation work.
