Making his debut

By Marisa de Silva

The brand new kid (not quite kid, but anyway) on the block Infaas Noor-Ud-Din will take the city by storm early next year with his debut solo album 'Infaas'. The young and talented artist, on the music scene for a while now, having mostly worked alongside popular local artists such as Iraj, Krishan and Yauwana, could well be the next 'big' thing to come!

Having first ventured into the music scene about three years ago, with the encouragement and support of popular Lankan rapper Krishan Maheson, thereon, Infaas took to the music industry like 'a duck to water.’ Having sung songs such as “Surangana Kirilli” and “J-Town Story” (featuring Krishan and Yauwana) produced by Iraj, which were quite popular with the masses, taking it straight up to No:1 on the local charts, he also went on to sing two songs for Krishan's album 'Asian Avenue' which was recorded under the Universal Label.

His passion for music runs quite deep as he was even a member of his College choir at St. Joseph's College, Maradana. Thus, it didn't come as much of a surprise that he opted to pursue his interest even once he'd left school. After spending a few years learning, observing and gaining exposure in the field, he finally opted to branch out on his own, and churn out a solo album, featuring some popular guest artists like, BK, Krishan and Yawanna.

His soon to be released album, will mostly feature Sinhala pop and R'n'B music and also some English numbers, he said. "The underlying theme of most of the songs on my album, is love and its various facets.”

“My music brings out the complexity of love and all those caught up in it,” he explains. One of his personal favourites “Mandhira Sandalu Thala”, and “Girl” which have already been released to the local radio stations and well as another one of his songs “Thani Yahanaya” will be included in his album. The latter is about a guy who has just lost his girlfriend and is now looking back on their time together with regret, wishing they were still together.

"Most often I have a certain idea in my head about what I want a song to be like and then I discuss my idea with the lyricists and then we produce the song accordingly. Sometimes though, the producers come up with their own ideas and we work it out that way too," said Infaas. "Mainly it's Wasantha Dhukkanarala, Kalum Srimal, Deelipa Abeysekera and Tiron that write lyrics for my songs," he added.

A Sales Manager by profession, Infaas works on his music daily after work. Working together with the Hit Factory crew, Ranga Dassanayaka, Yohan Rajapakse and Nisal Gangoda. His family has always been supportive of his work and been with him every step of the way, he adds.

He also hopes to pursue Business Advertising academically in the near future. "I would also like to thank everyone who's always supported me and my music and I'm sure they'll enjoy my upcoming album," he said enthusiastically.
