Gritty Saman dethrones Navin

Saman Tillekeratne displaying superior court craft outplayed defending champion Navin Samarasinghe in a grueling 40 minute final to win by straight sets 9/3, 9/1, 9/4 in the Year 2006 Squash Nationals concluded at the Gymkhana Club Courts last evening.The event is being sponsored for the third year by James Finlay and Co. Ltd.

In the women’s final Nirasha Guruge made it four in-a-row. She defeated Tehani Guruge also in straight sets 10/8, 9/5, 9/6 in a closely fought out contest. Tehani of Museaus College leaves for U.S.A to follow a four-year engineering course at Trinity College Hartford – Connecticut today. She has earned a full scholarship to pursue her studies.

Novices: Men – Sanjeewa Wijesekera bt H.M.L.H. Hulangamuwa 9/4.10/9, 4/9, 6/9, 9/6.
Men’s Plate – Nilruk Soyza bt Kyne Coenraad 9/6, 6/9, 9/2, 9/1.
