This Swimming Pool, a Short Course Pool, 6 lanes – 25 meters, built to the international standards is the first of its kind in the area of Moratuwa and among the very few in outstations.

This fully-fledged swimming pool is unique as it is for the common and underprivileged children in and around the area of Moratuwa to get themselves trained under specialized coaches. ‘Swim for Safety’ Swimming Pool is a project of AFLAC International , a locally based humanitarian organisation.

The main objective of this project, according to AFLEC International, is to train the Children to be able for them to swim and overcome the fear of water.

Rt. Rev. Dr. Marius Peiris, Auxiliary Bishop in his speech paid a glowing tribute to AFLAC Internatinal for funding this project and selecting it to be built at St. Sebastian’s College. He also said that with this unprecedented humanitarian opportunity provided by AFLAC for the common children in the area the sports crazy population in Moratuwa would be able reach high standards in swimming which is more popular as a competitive sport.

Capt. Elmo Jayawardena, Founder Prsident of the AFLAC International in his address stated the background for this extraordinary commitment and assured that his team is committed to fulfil the objectives of the project to train the common children to swim and overcome the fear of water.

In his speech he said, more people would have been saved and overcome the threat of tsunami, if they knew how to swim.
‘So I thought it is our duty to teach our children on this type of life saving measure, which is very important in sport too’ he added.

The children in the areas of Moratuwa, Piliyandala and Dehiwela – Mt. Lavinia could get themselves enrolled to obtain the swimming training from this Pool, absolutely free of charge through their respective schools and organisations.
