Ajantha: Lankan voice in Greece

Ajantha Perera a talented singer residing in Greece has released her maiden cassette and CD, 'Seetha Reyaka recently.

Born in Talawila, Ajantha's talent as a singer never came to light until she went to Greece in 1998. It was Ajith Madura de Silva who lived in Greece persuaded Ajantha to develop her talent. Ajith himself is a musician. It was in parties and musical shows organized by friends that Ajantha first made her appearance. The friends who enjoyed her singing encouraged her to continue her singing.

For this her first step was to make a few of her own songs. To start her project she met veteran singer Anjaline Gunathilake and with her help she managed to get some of country's best music directors and lyricists to make twelve songs for her. And 'Seetha Reyaka' was the outcome. In this collection of songs young singer Thilina Fernando has joined her for duets.

The country's well-known lyricists like Wasantha Kumara Kobawaka, Padmakumara Meththasena and Niral N. Cassim and Somadasa Suriyarachchi have penned songs to her CD while leading musicians Rohana Weerasinghe, Nalaka Anjana Kumara, Navaratne Gamage, Mahnda Bandara and Pradeep Bogahawatte have made melodies.

Some of her songs are being broadcast on radio channels in Sri Lanka and Ajantha says that she is getting very good response.

Going back to Greece Ajantha has got a circle of fans who regularly call her and encourage her."With the response I received for this cassette I realized that there is still a large audience to enjoy good music," says Ajantha overjoyed with the response she had received. She thanked Nalaka Anjana Kumara who had helped her to bring her songs to the media in addition to make melodies for her songs.
