CID
search TRO’s Colombo head office
CID detectives yesterday searched the Colombo head office of the
Tamil Rehabilitation Organisation (TRO), a pro-LTTE NGO, and are
due to return for a further search tomorrow. A team of six detectives
searched the TRO office in Colombo 7, and told the security guard
on duty that they would come again on Monday since most of the staff
were not present during the search, TRO spokesman Arjunan Ethirveerasingam
said.
He said the detectives checked computers and files,
but did not remove anything from the building,
On Friday, police raided TRO offices in Vavuniya and Trincomalee
and removed files, cheque books and computers.
Four TRO employees were taken in for questioning
but later they were released. Last year, the Central Bank froze
several TRO bank accounts alleging its funds were being transferred
to the LTTE.
Meanwhile, the TRO in an appeal has called on
the Government and the International Committee of the Red Cross,
the United Nations and the international community to urgently send
food and medicine to the internally displaced people in Vakarai.
