Cricket Academy wins 'Nelson Mendis' Trophy
Ten days of exciting junior cricket in the Third
Invitation U-14 Cricket Tournament for Coaching Schools and Academies,
conducted by the C.C.C. School of Cricket came to a successful end
on Saturday December 30, 2006. The Fingara International Cricket
Academy triumphed over the Roy Dias School of Cricket at the final
held at the Maitland Crescent Turf.
The Fingara Team, captained by allrounder Chamod
Wickremasinghe was coached by former Sri Lankan cricketer Hemantha
Devapriya, while the Roy Dias School of Cricket was led by leading
batsman Dhanushka Sandaruwan, and coached by Mohan Perera.
Thirty four teams participated in the tournament,
which was held for the third successive year.
During the ten day period, 71 matches were conducted
in eight groups.
The main sponsors of the tournament were Ceylon
Cold Stores, Singer Sri Lanka Ltd., Kumarasiri Saw Mills, Sumathi
Sports and Premier One Water Systems.
A colourful Awards Ceremony was held at the Bishop's
College Auditorium on December 30, 2006.
