Hendala: Frequent breakdowns after blast

Regular power failures in Hendala are causing problems to residents in spite of temporary measures put into place by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) following last week’s attack on a transformer in the area.

Meanwhile, the CEB has suffered a loss of Rs. 50 million due to the damages caused by the attack early Monday morning, CEB General Manager D.R Pulleperuma said.

He said a 10 MVA transformer would be brought in from another area while trying to repair the blasted transformer.

Commenting on future security steps to be taken he said while police would be vigilant around those areas where there are transformers he also appealed to the public to be alert about any suspicious activities.

Police are yet to make a breakthrough in the investigation regarding the blast at Hendala athough two people have been taken into custody.
