Lankans with no Italian jobs may face deportation
Some 10,000 Sri Lankan who had entered Italy illegally and failed to prove they possess a permanent job and residence face the risk of being deported, an Italian Minister disclosed.
The Italian State Minister for Foreign Affairs Gianni Vernetti who is on a two day visit to Sri-Lanka said the Italian Government has introduced a new law to regularlise the entry of illegal immigrants.
At least 10,000 Sri Lankans are among the 350,000 illegal immigrants whose stay is to be regularized under this law.
“If the illegal immigrants can prove they have permanent jobs with a work permit and a house and have not been involved in crime, their stay will be regularized,” he said. Over 100,00 Sri Lankans are employed in Italy currently. |
