Caterer facing joint action against filling

The Kotte Municipal Council has also intervened in the recent illegal land filling case against the owner of a catering service in a bid to halt the dumping of waste on State land adjoining the caterer’s property. After constant complaints from angry neighbours, the Municipal and Land Reclamation Corporation authorities have got involved in preventing further damage to the marshy land and canal.

“We have received complaints from neighbours on the dumping of waste in the area but it is not possible to take any action until the investigation is over,” a Public Health Inspector (PHI) handling the case said. Meanwhile the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation (SLLRDC) which was involved in the matter a month ago, has decided to excavate the polluted canal using its own resources after the owner of the catering service failed to heed its warnings.

SLLRDC General Manager G. Alawattegama said the SLLRDC had no choice but to take the offender to courts since he had ignored the warnings.
