More confusion over sili sili ban

Sili sili products are part and parcel of day to day life in Sri Lanka. Most people are, however, aware that these products create environmental problems.

Now the government has enforced a ban to create a sili-sili free environment and the authorities have conducted several raids to ensure the ban is enforced. However, it is difficult to enforce the law immediately, because, if you look at the ground situation, these products had been manufactured and distributed for sale before January 1, 2007, when the ban was enforced. At the same time, few alternatives have been introduced in the market. Therefore, it is impractical to stop the sale, distribution and usage of sili- sili bags immediately.

I believe the government should give more time to sell the existing sili-sili products before enforcing the ban.
