Royal Palms melts at ‘Below Zero’
By Damayanthi Hewamanna
‘Below Zero’ which is the latest addition to the nightclub scenes was opened two days before the New Year dawned at the Royal Palms Hotel in Kalutara with a live performance by Flame.
‘Below Zero’ like other clubs has its own special uniqueness such as its icy cooling effect that one gets once they step into the club. Also the colour ice blue is seen all around the Fahrenheit Pub, where the walls are covered with glass brick as well as on the tables, which is something one doesn't see at all nightclubs.
‘I want it to be a bit original’, the designer behind the whole club Senake de Silva said.
The club has been designed as a place to chill out with a cosy ambiance, which will have a mix of music from yesteryear to satisfy the older generation who were the majority at the opening.
The first hundred guests were given a free membership that includes free entrance to the night club and a special package on Bed & Breakfast basis at Royal Palms Beach Hotel. The club offers a traditional Sri Lankan hopper corner from midnight to 2.00am so that all party people can have a late night snack while still enjoying a great night out at Below Zero.
The Dj's who performed that night and will continue playing there were Groove Djs J Kumar and Yan. A lot of Russians as well as Germans were present at the launch party, which gave a boost to the club as well the hotels around the corner.
The hotel itself did some refurbishment to the three restaurants, the lounge bar, reception lounge and the bedrooms and added the Ayurveda Wellness and Spa which is located at the Tangerine Beach Hotel which is the sister hotel of Royal Palms.
The hotel has won many award s for consistency of food service and standards for many Tour Operators such as the Hotel Plan Quality Award four 4 consecutive times, the TUI Holly Award twice and the Thomas Cook Primo awards.
The other hotels under the Tangerine Group of hotels are the Tangerine Beach Hotel, Grand Hotel Nuwara Eliya and Nilaveli Beach Hotel in Nilaveli.
