Brandix Group's A&E Lanka to expand operations in Bangladesh

American & Efird Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, (A&E) the Brandix Group's manufacturer of world class sewing and embroidery threads plan to further investments in its satellite plant in Bangladesh, the company disclosed recently.

Hosting a visit to its award-winning manufacturing facility at Kaduwela by the Bangladesh Ambassador in Sri Lanka, Mohammed Shahdat Hossein, the company said it was gearing to meet the huge demand for thread in that country's apparel manufacturing industry. Estimated at US $ 7 Billion annually, Bangladesh's apparel exports are more than double Sri Lanka's and larger than India's.

The Bangladeshi Ambassador was briefed on A&E Lanka's internationally acknowledged achievement in maintaining environmental standards and its success in using reverse osmosis to purify water used in the manufacturing process for re-use.

The company, which uses about 200,000 litres of water a day, re-uses 65 percent of this quantity after purification.

One of the cleanest manufacturing operations in Sri Lanka, A&E received the prestigious Excellence in Social Responsibility Award last year in the 'Preservation of the Environment' category from the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA), the national trade association of the USA encompassing apparel, footwear and other sewn product companies and their suppliers.
