Who are we? ADVERTISTMENTS
What does it mean to be Sri Lankan? If, for a moment, we could put aside the invisible barriers that divide us – language, race, and religion – then who would we be?It is 59 years since Sri Lanka became a free and independent state. Yet, it seems our hearts and minds are still fettered with a thousand chains.
 
A message of meditation
''Our world is a smaller place today. We travel around a lot. We do meet each other, we do marry each other, and we make friends with each other. That's a wonderful time for our world where, as the world gets smaller, we get to know each other better. Maybe with that friendship, knowledge and everything, we can overcome many of the difficulties which separate our nations, religions and peoples.''
 
Cliff and I
It was 1959. I had been asked to write the first ever book about Cliff Richard. It was called "Driftin' With Cliff Richard" and told "the inside story of what really happens on tour." I wrote it with Jet Harris, then the bass guitarist with Cliff's celebrated backing group, The Drifters.
 
Life after 80
Remember when you were 18 and a person of 30 years seemed incredibly old? So it went on. When you reached 30, you still felt young, but of course you considered those over 40 were only a jump away from senility.
 
Tough trek to the peak
I must begin by stating (just for the record) that as of December 18, 2006, our ambitious quest to conquer the magnificent Adam’s Peak, (better known as Sri Pada), my respect for Edward Murphy has grown in great abundance! The scene was set. There were six of us enthusiastic expeditors.
