Jani saga drags on
The on going saga, in to the case against Jani Chathurangi has taken yet another twist. President of the Amateur Athletic Association Derwyn Perera told The Sunday Times that they had written to the International Amateur Athletic Federation, seeking their advice on how best to proceed with a fresh inquiry.
Perera added that to first suspend Chathurangi and then hold an inquiry is not possible. “The Disciplinary Committee said that the medical procedure followed to test Chathurangi was wrong. Furthermore according to local rules, once an athlete is acquitted a suspension is not possible as he or she can go to court. Thus we had no choice but to get the IAAF’s idea on how to have a hearing without suspending the athlete. We are yet to get a reply,” said Perera in conclusion.
