Sri Lankan cinematic gems glitter in Canada
A ‘Sri Lankan Film Festival’ of award winning contemporary directions will be held in Canada to celebrate Sri Lanka's 59th Independence Day.
Canadian Film Institute together with the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa has made arrangements to screen four award winning contemporary Sri Lankan films at a Sri Lankan Film Festival to be held in February 2007. Having held a festival in March/ April 2004 this is the second Sri Lankan Film Festival to be held in Ottawa. Encouraged by the immense success and positive response from Canadian audiences High Commission of Sri Lanka in Ottawa organised the 2007 festival providing opportunity for the audiences in Canada to see some of the most successful films of cinematic value made by contemporary film-makers in Sri Lanka.
The Film Festival will commence on February 4 to coincide with the Independence Day of Sri Lanka and it starts with Jayantha Chandrasiri's 'Guerilla Marketing' at 7.00 pm at the Auditorium of the National Library and Archives of Canada, 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa.
Sudath Devapriya's 'Udugang Yamaya' (Against the Tide) will be screened on February 11, Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne's Sudu Sewaneli (Shadows of White) on February 24 and Dr. Lester James Peries' 'Wekande Walawwe' (Mansion by the Lake) on February 25.
