British Standards Institution (BSI) now in Sri Lanka

The British Standards Institution (BSI), UK’s national standards body, this week said it has launched operations in Sri Lanka with clients that include Caltex Lubricants, Sri Lanka Telecom, Virtusa, Office Tigers, Cost Consultants, Ansel Lanka and Lanka Organics.

BSI’s first awareness programme will be held tomorrow Galadari Hotel in Colombo. In a statement BSI said it is one of the world leaders in advancing industry and business for a better quality of life.

Founded in London in 1901 as the ‘Engineering Standards Committee’, BSI is the world’s oldest National Standards Body (NSB) and a founder member of the ISO. It has 15,000 subscribing members and 2,000 standards published per annum and currently counts 24,000 current British Standards with 7000 current standards projects. The BSI also has 2500 committees with around 23,000 committee members worldwide

BSI’s Country Representative Kumar Pieries here said BSI has 24,000 standards written so far across 50,000 customers worldwide which will help Sri Lankan products and services for the best quality certification to compete on equal terms with globalisation.
