What I like to do
during weekends
Under 9 years
Weekends or Saturday and Sunday are two very happy days for me. On some weekends my parents take me and my sister to the beach. We play there till it gets dark.
On some weekends we go to Shantha Uncle's house at Nainamadama. We play with Uncle's two children until we are tired.
The most interesting place I like to visit on weekends is ‘Karavitagara Wewa,’ because I can swim and play in the water. I like to watch the fishermen catch fish with their fishing rods. It is a very nice thing to have our lunch on the bank of the wewa.

Let's say no to
pollution!
Mother Earth is being
polluted
Aren't you aware?
She's crying to be treated
With much better care.
She once was a heaven
Beautiful, peaceful, and calm
But from recently
increasing pollution
She has begun to lose her charm.
We talk about cleanliness
But isn't this a lie?
We are really so careless
That we simply throw trash by.
We worry about our
examinations,
Life and future ambitions.
But why not about our future generation,
Who might suffer from this pollution?
So let's say no to pollution,
Join our hands and work
To stop this dangerous infection
From destroying our beloved Earth.

The importance of water
9 - 12 years
Water is the most abundant thing in the world. Three fourths of the world is covered with water. Living beings need water to live. All life on earth from the smallest bug to the biggest whale depends on water.
All animals and plants contain water. We need water everyday for various activities. Farmers use water to grow the food. Factories use huge quantities of water to make various things. Water can be used in some places to transport goods and people.
Fresh water is precious. We must save water. Water is essential to every living being, so we must not waste water.

Ban on polythene below 20 microns
12 - 14 years
Polythene is very useful to humans. Polythene bags help us to carry vegetables, fruits and other goods, when marketing.
But polythene pollutes our environment and makes it dirty.
In Sri Lanka we see silisili bags flying around on the busy highways and pavements. Lots of these bags are seen in garbage piles.
Burning polythene is also dangerous since it releases poisonous gases. In one way polythene is useful to us. But sometimes it is bad for us.
We must stop the use of all polythene, not only less than 20 microns. In other countries people can't throw polythene in streets because the police will fine them.
Many countries have posters like this:
* 'Please don't use polythene. It makes the environment dirty.'
* 'Please don't throw polythene.' 'Polythene has adverse effects on the environment.'
We must keep Sri Lanka beautiful by not using polythene. School children, elders and shop owners also must not use polythene.
Without using polythene bags we can use mat bags, rag bags or plastic bags. It will help us to have a healthy and beautiful future.
