Former Sri Lanka National Swimming Champion Arun Karunaratne assumed office as the Development Officer at Swimming Victoria in September 2006. An old boy of Elizabeth Moir International School, Arun was the national swimming champion in 2000 and 2001. He held many Sri Lankan national and public school records and represented the country at international competitions for a number of years. He has won many national and international awards. Arun represented Sri Lanka at world swimming championships in 2002, South Asian Games in 2004 and at Commonwealth Games in 2006.
While studying at the university in Melbourne, Australia he trained under Australian National coach Ian Pope and later on under the president of the Victoria coaches association Rohan Taylor. Arun took up to coaching on part time basis and later on promoted to the position of Head Teacher at H2O swimming works. After completing the Bachelor of Applied Science degree in 2005 he joined Carey Aquatic and worked there over a year. |
