Three decades of Hezonite

There are only very few bands in the city today, who can boast about being for more than three decades. Hezonite is one of them. Hezonite, a well known musical outfit in Kandy, completes three decades of music this year.

Michael Sansoni the leader of the band is also a popular figure as Hezonite. Michael came into the music scene in early 70's with his college friends. After making few shows, the boys went their separate ways and Sansoni decided to form a band to continue his musical career, despite his education at the Hotel School.

‘While I was at the hospitality industry at the Hotel School, I managed to take my musical career off the ground’ Sansoni added.

The present lineup comprises Michael and Glori Gladstone (main vocals), Sangeeth Kurundupitiya (keyboards), Pradeep Senanayake (guitar), Nimal de Silva (bass) and Jeevan Herath (drums).

Hezonite performs at Mahaweli Reach Hotel on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays on contract basis.

'But we play at most of the top functions in Kandy. Weddings, corporate gigs and other social functions and dances are our area of performance' said Sansoni. By - SW.
