Moratuwa Y. M. C. A. sing-a-long with Rukshan and the Gypsies

Sing-A-Long with Rukshan and the Gypsies organized by the Moratuwa Y.M.C.A. will be held at 7.00 p.m on Saturday May 5, 2007 at the Ranmal Hotel, Gorakana, Moratuwa.

Conducted by versatile musician and entertainer Rukshan Perera as Music Director, who returned to Sri Lanka recently after being away for over 25 years in the USA. Rukshan has performed with well known bands Golden Chimes and Super Golden Chimes and then toured Asia and Europe with Esquire Set and Serendib.

He also has the unique ability to whistle in two parts - melody and harmony at the same time. He is in great demand with musician performing in most of the Colombo musical shows.

The fabulous Gypsies led by Sunil Perera will provide music and by Sunil and Piyal, Mariazelle and the others will be the guest performers. Dance acts to complement the music will be performed by professional dancers.

The organizers stated that the programme, carefully designed with songs selected to cater to a wide cross section of music lovers to ensure that everyone will really enjoy the show. The songs include the English oldies of the songs of 50s, 60s and 70's, Cliff Richard, Elvis Presley, Harry Belafonte, Tom Jones, Englebert, Bee Gees and others. Sinhala all time favourites of C.T. Fernando, Clarence Wijewardene and others also will be featured.

Tickets have been prized at R.500/- and a song book will be given free to all those attending the show.

The Chief Guest will be Mr. Eraj Wijesinghe Chairman, Bartleets Group of companies and TIGO the mobile cellular communications network are the Principal Sponsor. This event is a fund raiser for a Community Centre and Sports Complex being constructed in their premises for the benefit of the youth in the community. Established in 1948 Y.M.CA. Moratuwa was in the forefront of Youth, Sports and Christian activities until in 1980 and it is an institution which has produced National and Junior National Champions and players in most sports.
