KARACHI, Saturday (AFP) - Fierce gun battles between rival Pakistani political activists killed 27 people today in the worst violence since President Pervez Musharraf suspended the country's top judge two months ago.

LONDON, Saturday (AP) - Gordon Brown promised a shift in policy in Iraq and a new vision for Britain as he launched his campaign to become the country's next prime minister. Brown stood before a standing ovation of hand-picked supporters on Friday, only hours after Prime Minister Tony Blair formally endorsed his candidacy.
 
Attack on US patrol in Iraq: 5 dead, 3 missing
BAGHDAD, Saturday (Reuters) - Seven U.S. soldiers and an Iraqi army interpreter were attacked during a patrol in an al Qaeda stronghold south of Baghdad today. Five were killed and three are missing, the U.S. military said.
