Did Sri Lanka cricket gain an iota of anything by participating in this just concluded off shore series against Pakistan other than hard cash? Flying back to our little island after their exploits and ending up as the runners-up of World Limited overs cricket in the West Indies was a high. Then not even a week later Sri Lanka takes part in this series against Pakistan who are still reeling under their World Cup debacle with a kind of neither here nor there outfit and gets thrashed, but that too under cloudy circumstances. |

Building stadiums or passing the buck |
Sri Lanka is scheduled to host the next cricket World Cup in 2011 jointly with the three other test playing nations of the sub-continent, but the sports controlling body here, Sri Lanka Cricket is yet clueless about the state of one of the newest stadiums that needs to be completed for the event. |

Tough times in the desert |
The happy memories of the World Cup were pushed to the back of the mind in a very short time, courtesy the three ODI’s against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi. A present eleven minus Kumar Sangakkara, Muttiah Muralitharan and Chaminda Vaas will be hard to class as a Sri Lankan team. They were handicapped from the very start. |

The schools rugby scene continues to be in a quagmire with more battles being fought off the field than on it. Though the season is just into its fourth week controversy has raised her ugly head. As is the norm all the problems are with Division One teams. |
