Theatre owners ring alarm bells |
|
Last week theatre owners rang alarm bells on the authorities in charge of the country's film industry claiming that 87 theatre halls have been closed since 2001. The Theatre Owners Association gathered the media to explain the grave situation they have been facing over the last few years and demanded that if immediate action was not taken they would be forced to close all the theatres in the country. |

‘Uthpalawanna’: Captures Thanthirimale’s beauty |
Having done the shooting in the historically important Thanthirimale for his latest film 'Uthpalawanna', veteran filmmaker Dr. Sunil Ariyaratne says that he was glad to be the first filmmaker to capture the serene beauty of the area for a film. "The area had not been visited by outsiders for nearly the last two decades due to the fear of LTTE attacks. But we stayed there for almost a month filming day and night without any problem," said Dr. Ariyraratne. |

Grand Hotel in Nuwara Eliya is a true National heritage. The property reflects the rich history of British rulers in the hills and the history of last two Centuries. The hotel has a 116 year old heritage and it was the former residence of Sir Edward Barnes, Governor of Sri Lanka from the year 1830 to 1850. After forming the Nuwara Eliya Hotels Company in 1891, this Governor's Residence became a hotel under its new name 'Grand Hotel' |
