Royal regained the coveted Bradby Shield after three long years with a hard fought 15 points (1 goal, 1 try and 1 penalty) to 11 (1 try and 2 penalties) win in the second leg played at the Royal College Sports Complex yesterday. The home side going in to the second leg with an eight point cushion following their first leg victory in Kandy by 20 points to 12, were rattled by the visitors in the first half. In just the second minute of play Royal were penalized and Trinity’s stand off Cinci Siegertsz converted the resulting penalty. |

Murali looking for place in the sun |
Sri Lanka will have a new combination at the top when they take on Bangladesh in their first Test at the SSC grounds tomorrow. Since the pull out of veteran opener Marvan Atapattu and the injury to Upul Tharanga, newly drafted Michael Vandort is likely to open with the nephew of former Sri Lanka captain Bandula Warnapura – Malinda. |

Issue never to be repeated |
What happened to Atapattu should not happen to any senior cricketer in the future. At the same time the authorities also must moot even an unwritten policy towards the seniors and how to long are they going hold on to their positions. A mixture of youth and experience is a must for any team. But, you must be very professional and tactful when you put that into action. |

Petes getting closer to the plum |
The week provided the thrill for those who savvy school rugby. Good news was that Issipathana is expected to be back on the field. Meanwhile spectators thronged to Longden Place to watch the match between S. Thomas’ College Mount Lavinia and Royal College. There was a huge spectator turnout despite some having to weather the wait in long traffic jams. |
