Madumanthie soars high at Junior Athletic meet

One Sri Lanka record and six meet records were lowered on the second day of the Junior National Athletic Championships at the Sugathadasa Stadium yesterday. The meet is sponsored by Dialog Telekom.
Priyangika Madumanthie of Kurunegala set up a new Sri Lanka record in the High Jump event when she cleared 1.77 meters. She broke her earlier record set up last year when she cleared 1.75 meters. The six meet records were by S.D.U.A. Dikmadugoda (Central College Anuradhapura) in the 100 m hurdles Under 18. Time – 14.65 seconds; 110 meters hurdles - Rajith Nadeeshan (Maris Stella Negombo) Time: 14.5 secs; 100 meters girls (under 18) Harshani Wijesinghe (St. Joseph’s BMV Kegalle) Time: 15.19 secs; Discus Under 19 (boys) Charith Kapukotuwa of Royal Colombo broke his own record to set up a new distance of 47.45 meters; Under 18, 200 m Boys Shehan Abepitiya (Gateway Int.) Time - 22. 20. Two others also broke the existing record. They are: Keith De Mel (Gateway Int.) and Chamara Silva (Leighton Park Int.); Under 16 (girls) 100 m Hurdles - Sandeepani Dayananda (Fergusen Girls School Ratnapura). |
