Girl run over by train

A young girl returning after her classes died when she was run over by a train while crossing the railway track near Kingwood College, Kandy around 4.30 p.m. on Friday.

Coincidentally, the one-way road traffic system on Peradeniya Road and William Gopallawa Mawatha was put into effect after 4 p.m. on the same day.

Meanwhile, attorney-at-law Wasantha Wijewardene, on behalf of some petitioners in Kandy, had written two separate letters of caution .to Deputy Inspector General of Police Nimal Mediwake and the Kandy Municipal Commissioner that if the one-way system was put into operation, they would file papers for contempt of court.
