Obeysekere teaches script writing

Award winning filmmaker and veteran scripwriter, Vasantha Obeysekera starts a course on 'Script Writing for Cinema and Television' from September 15. The intensive course comprising both theory and practical guidance to write scripts is for a limited number of applicants. Starting from September 15, every Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm the course will be conducted at his residence No. 15, Lauries Road, Colombo-4.

The course includes screening of world renowned films and discussions on them."There is a dearth of good scriptwriters both for the cinema and television. It is important that we train scriptwriters from the younger generation for the future of the industry," says Mr. Obeysekera.

"Teledrama is not a medium of art. They are advertisements. And we should know the difference between cinema and television when scripts are written for the two mediums," he said.

The main aim of Mr. Obeysekera is to share his knowledge with a group of enthusiastic youngsters who have interests in the media. There are a large number of filmmakers and script writers who were trained under Obeysekere. He scripted almost all the films he directed and out of thirteen films directed, Obeysekera won Best Director and Best Scriptwriter for eight of his films. Those interested could contact Mr. Obeysekere on telephone number 2588059 for further details.
