DSS retains trophy for fourth year

An all round performance by Isuru Udana helped DSS to retain the Hashan Tilekeratne trophy for the fourth successive year by virtue of their first inning lead in their annual encounter against Kingswood which ended in a draw yesterday at Wijerama Mawatha.

Isuru laid the foundation for a formidable score for his side on the first day when he cracked an unbeaten ton with another knock of 93 coming from Harendra Udugamvithana which saw them reach 279 for 9 before declaring. The all rounder then made another find contribution with his pace bowling as he, along with skipper Dimuthu Samarakkody, had the Kingswoodians struggling at the end of day one on 100 for 7.

The second day’s play saw the Kingswoodians being saved from a collapse thanks to a ninth wicket partnership of 73 between S. P. Atulugama and A. Hettige which helped them end the day on a respectable 190. Isuru and skipper Samarakkody captured four scalps each.

DSS batting the second time and going for quick runs, declared on 120 for 7 which left Kingswood a target of 209 but reached only 155 for 8 at stumps.

Tame draw at Matara

The inter-school cricket encounter between Richmond and S. Thomas’ Mt Lavinia concluded at the Uyanwatte Stadium in Matara ended in a tame draw.

Samin and Ishan shine

Half tons by Samin Kandanaarchchi and Ishan Athureliya were the highlights of the first day’s play between Dharmapala and Thurstan at Pannipitiya yesterday. The match will be continued at 10.00 a.m. today.
