Warnapura ton in spite of rain

By Aubrey Kuruppu

A well-complied unbeaten century by Nalanda skipper Madhawa Warnapura was the highlight of the drawn inter school match between Nalanda and Trinity at Asgiriya yesterday.

Play got underway only after tea on the second day, and Nalanda, who had played themselves into a dominating position, could not drive home the advantage.

Apart from Warnapura’s fine effort, runs also came the way of Munaweera, Priyangana and Kumarasinghe, starting their innings in fading light, Trinity lost two wickets cheaply before play was stopped.

Nalanda 271-4 Decl. in 70.2 overs (D. Munaweera 40, P. Perera 14, M. Warnapura 100 n.o., A. Priyanjana 37, N. Karunanayake 53, R. Perera 2-59.

Trinity 13-2 in 7.1 overs (C. Wickremasinghe 2-7).
