National chamber meets Iraqi government delegation
Senior officials of the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka headed by Lal de Alwis, its Deputy President, met a delegation of government officials and businessmen from Iraq in Colombo last week.
The discussion between the two parties focused on the promotion of trade and investment between the two countries for mutual benefits. The Iraq delegation said there are opportunities in Iraq for Sri Lanka in the field of construction and tourism.
They said they could also assist in oil exploration in Sri Lanka as they have the technology.
NCCSL’s de Alwis invited them to set up manufacturing plants in Sri Lanka so that with 35% value addition they could avail preferential tariff benefits under Sri Lanka - India and Sri Lanka – Pakistan Tree Trade Agreements.
The Iraq delegation comprised Abdulhadi Kadhim Abid, Director General Foreign Relations, Hadi J Abduffa, Assistant Director, Kadhim Gbaid Jabir, Director, Falih A Huzzam, First Secretary, Ms Mithl Fadel Abbas, Director – Tea, Murtadha Imran Issa, Director, Ammar Nazar H Mohamed, Attache, Mohamed Sulaiman Hussain, Director - Dates Department, Walid E Razauki, Economic Research, Ms Marwa M. Salman and Goderey Ludewyke. |
