Jesuit human rights team to probe Canissius’ death
The Human Rights Movement of the Jesuit Order is sending a team to Sri Lanka to probe the circumstances that led to the death of Negombo fishermen union leader Canissius Fernando on October 5 in Madurai, India.
The Jesuit probe comes amidst allegations of Indian government’s apathy in the death of the Sri Lankan who went to meet Sri Lankan fishermen serving jail sentences in Madurai.
The aim of the Jesuit probe is to help the family of Mr. Fernando obtain compensation amounting to one million Indian rupees, an official said. |
