Thai culinary feast at Mount Lavinia Hotel
Thai cuisine is one of the most popular culinary delights in the world. Though it is called Thai food, it has four different flavours and preparations, which comes from North, North Eastern (Isan), Central and Southern.
The best of Thai food will be on show at the Mount Lavinia Hotel from Sunday, October 21 to 27.
Thai food prepared by Chef Voravit and Chef Chaveewan flown in specially for the occasion from Novotel Hotel in Bangkok will be on display at the Hut from 7.30pm onwards for dinner only. The entrance to the Thai Festival will be Rs 1800/- per person, which includes Thai dishes and cultural show.
Thai food is known for its balance of five fundamental flavours in each of overall meal - hot or spicy, sour, sweet salty and bitter. Thai cuisine is known for its enthusiastic use of fresh (rather than dried) herbs and spices. Predominant flavours are lemon grass, coconut, ginger, chilies and fish sauce 'nam pla'.
According to the top Thai Chefs at the Mount Lavinia, the cuisine has been greatly influenced by its neighbours China, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia and India of course, resulting in an unmistakable fusion that is contemporary Thai food.
'Thai chefs use less fat, small amount of meat and variety of vegetables and the freshest of ingredients. Thai cuisine provides the rights nutrients to help with digestion and the gastro intestinal system. Thai foods are considered healthy delights.
Tom Yum Goong, Jasmine rice, Sticky Rice, Khao Chae, Curry made with a paste of spicy, Thai chilies, onions, garlic, galangal, lemongrass, coriander roots, kaffir lime peel, and kapee, Khao Chae, Nam prik served with fried fish is usually served with a paste of fermented soybeans, shrimp paste (kapee), Pla ra, pla som, and pla daek, Gaeng Tai Pla, Fish Stomach Curry are some of the popular Thai dishes available at the Mount Lavinia Hotel during the festival. |
