No more dogs from abroad for Kennels

In future dogs will not be imported from European countries for the Police Kennels, the headquarters of which is situated in Kandy, Senior Superintendent of Police Jagath Abeysirigunawardene said. He said Police Chief Victor Perera had called on the public to give dogs to the Police Kennels and there had been a very good response. He said they would be saving around Rs. 40 million in foreign exchange.

Commenting on the crime situation in Kandy he said they had arrested two ex Army men in connection with a bank robbery two weeks ago. He believed this arrest would lead to a decrease in the incidents of robbery. He said all police stations in the district were getting a facelift .He also said that a new police station would be coming up in Peradeniya and Hataraliyadde.
