Tharindu looks for ‘Hanthanen

Tharindu Weerasinghe, who became the first Peradeniya engineering undergraduate to launch an anthology in English in Sri Lanka, will hold an evening of music and songs at the Peradeniya University's open air theatre on Monday, March 3 from 6.30 pm onwards.
The songs sung at the event titled 'Hanthanen Ena Pawanak'are penned by Tharindu who is also the organizer and creative director of the show.
Lecturer Manoj Alawathukotuwa attached to the Peradeniya University will be the main music provider.
The melody makers and vocalists of the event will be Kasun Karunarathne (Arts), Charith Suranga (Engineering), Sanjaya Kumarasinghe (Medicine), Samitha Dunukepotha (Arts), Dulantha Warnasooriya (Engineering), Nuwan Priyadarshana (Medicine), Mahesha Senananda (Arts), Chulanga Wickramasinghe (Medicine) and Asela Eranda (Engineering).
A CD comprising the songs sung at the event and a book comprising the lyrics will also be launched at the event. Veteran Poet, journalist, cinematographer Buddhadasa Galappatti will be the chief guest. The principal sponsor of the event is IRQUE project, University of Peradeniya.
Tharindu's book titled 'Candlelight' is a compilation of poems on various topics such as nature, war, human life, emotions, modernisation and many more. Apart from writing poetry he had also displayed his skills as a compere, cricketer, actor and public speaker during his campus days. He had been the chief English compere at the Faculty of Engineering from 2003 to 2007.
He was also a member of the art circle; a society established to develop aesthetic talents of the students at the faculty and was its editor in 2005. He was the vice president (public relations) of the Gavel Club of the University of Peradeniya for 2005/2006 (Gavel Club is a sub club of The Colombo Toastmasters Club and Toastmasters International). He had also won several awards and trophies for his contributions in diverse fields.
Tharindu is presently employed as a temporary academic staff member of the Dept. of Computer Engineering, University of Peradeniya.
