Heart burn at Kandy Hospital |
|
The Kandy Teaching Hospital, which has already stopped performing by-pass operations, is now struggling to carry on with heart, thoracic and lung-related surgeries as many essential surgical materials are unavailable.
Although the operating theatre of the hospital is functioning by-pass surgeries are not being performed due to the dearth of arterial catheters, which are widely used during operations. |

Kandyan Convention
of 1815 |
"Fine Day .. and warm" is how John D'Oyly described the second of March, 1815 in his diary. This date is recorded in the history of Sri Lanka as the day when the Kandyan Convention was signed. John D'Oyly, later to become Sir John D'Oyly, was the British public servant who was instrumental in paving the way for British troops to enter Kandyan territory, which other foreign powers were unable to penetrate into. |

When winning becomes
a habit |
Kandy Sports Club have dominated the club rugby scene for nearly the past decade. Many say that winning is a habit and if that is the case, then other clubs will have to go in to turbo gear.
In the very first tournament for clubs held this year, Kandy laid down the marker by clinching the Championship in what can best be described as a lop sided final. They trounced Army by 55 points (five goals and four tries) to 7 (one goal). |
