Cremation of veteran journalist

Mallika Wanigasundara

The cremation of veteran journalist Mallika Wanigasundara, former Features Editor of the Daily News, Lake House Newspaper, will take place today at the General Cemetery, Borella.

Mrs. Wanigasundera, who passed away on Friday at the age of 81, began her career in journalism at the Janatha Editorial in 1956, and later joined the Sunday and Evening Observer, eventually becoming Features Editor of the Daily News.

On August 7, 2007, she received a Lifetime Achievement Gold Medal for Excellence in Journalism at an awards ceremony organised by the Editors Guild of Sri Lanka and the Sri Lanka Press Institute.

Mrs. Wanigasundera made her contribution to journalism writing feature stories covering news, current affairs, economic development as well as film and drama reviews.
