A PUB-lic disgrace

How many of the citizens of this beautiful city of Kandy have noticed the large neon sign PUB, high above the Dalada Maligawa, proudly proclaiming itself against the night sky?

The sign is cheek-by-jowl with the sacred, world-famous Dalada Maligawa and the equally sacred and historic Pothgul Vihara at Buwelikada. Either we are a very tolerant breed of people or we are so demoralised that we could not care less.

What are the powers that be doing about this disgraceful state of affairs? This sign has been up there for a few years. What has become of this beautiful country, that boasts of a proud Buddhist heritage?
