VERTISTMENTS |
With all the gloom that is going on around us, in the country at the moment, it would be nice, even just for a little while, to escape from the reality of it all. Don't you think? And if you have a love for music, what better way to escape, than to be able to listen to some amazing voices, (and in my opinion, probably some of the best at the moment in the island) perform some memorable songs, on stage. And this superb male vocal outfit, are none other than, The Revelations, and this is where I suggest you should be, this April, when they bring to you, Sound Celebration. |

Godaya celebrates Avurudu |
This week's column will focus on a couple of things I noticed last week, and around my experiences of Avurudu.
I popped into a leading supermarket last week to get some essential (who am I kidding?) goods, and saw quite an interesting sight. A scene from a "traditional" Gami Avurudu being enacted out in the middle of the supermarket place, with lots of sponsorship thrown in. It was like those new music videos, which focus more on bars of chocolate and umbrellas than the actual lyrics, and a storyline. |

Café chic |
Fair-trade, organic food, a small café…you may wonder what these three may have in common here in Sri Lanka… Does NudeFood ring a bell? Well, if you are a frequent visitor at Odel, this concept café is hard to miss as it is on the right hand corner of The Boulevard (the food court-like area). Furnished with white furniture which have been hand-painted by the two owners Fiona Raymond and Sally Michel, walking into this tiny cosy setting there is a sense of calmness in the air, "We want to make people feel like they are part of a community," they said. |
