Educating youth on HIV

It's estimated that 33,200,000 people are infected with HIV around the world today.
Over 2 million of them are children.
In Sri Lanka alone it is estimated that over 5000 people are living with HIV.
These are but estimates, the reality is possibly much worse.
Do you know how you get HIV?
Do you know how to protect your self?
Do you know that HIV is not a death sentence?
If you didn't, now is the time to get educated.

On April 26, 'Save Lanka Kids' will be hosting an event to educate our youth on HIV. The Beach Sports Festival will kick off on the sunny beaches of Hikkaduwa (in front of Sunil's Beach Hotel and Ranmal's Beach Resort) from 8am to 8.30pm and will comprise of many sports activities such as, beach volleyball, tug-of- war, body building, and much more, and as the sunsets there will also be dancing, karaoke, and open mic to keep everyone entertained throughout the night.

The main objective of this event is to educate and empower our youth, about HIV and at the same time have fun. The event will mainly target youth from 14 – 25 years and together we hope to break the wall of silence surrounding HIV and promote interaction about it.

Also we hope to end the stigma and discrimination that HIV is associated with, to change how our society on a whole views this disease and the people affected by it.

You can make a difference by taking part and volunteering, for yourself and for others. For further details contact Save Lanka Kids on 011-2513865 or email: hivoutreach@gmail.com.
