Isipathana’s wing three quarter Vishwamithra Jayasinghe was the toast of his supporters in their Singer Division 1A inter-school rugby encounter against St. Anthony’s when he helped his side to an easy 32 points to 10 win at the Havelock Park yesterday.

The Isipathanians accumulated their points through one goal and five tries as against one goal and a penalty by the Antonians. Vishwamithra was in terrific form when he went over for three tries from the six scored by the Pathanas. It was he who did the first scoring with a dashing run having received a pass midway in the Antonians territory. But the Antonians replied with a penalty put over by full back T.D. Bandara.

The Antonians shocked the Isipathanians when they followed it up with a try scored by Bandara who himself converted it to give them the Kandy side a 10-5 lead. The Isipathanians smarting from this lapse got their act together and began attacking and succeeded when skipper and centre Dinusha Chathuranga went over a try to which he added the extra points.

Then Vishwamithra sent the Isipathana supporters up the hill with a peach of a try down the corner flag which again went unconverted with which referee D. Nimal gave the signal for lemons and Isipathana taking a 17-10 lead. On resumption Isipathana coming into the game with a different game plan smelt success in the fourth minute through a try from scrum half Srinath Siribandara but again the conversion was fluffed.

The Antonians did not get a chance to raise their heads as the Isipathanians dominated the proceedings. Injuries to some of the Antonians took a toll of them which also gave the advantage for the Havelock Park boys. They increased their lead with a left corner flag try by centre Niroshan Fernando which too went unconverted. With the Antonians unable to make any headway nevertheless the Pathanas were too good for them. Reaching the dying stages it was Vishwamithra again who tormented the Antonians by going over for a try and seal the game.
