‘Kuwera Wara’ revolves
around an ambitious man
‘Kuwera Wara' the latest miniplay scripted by award-winning writer and novelist Sumithra Rahubaddha introduces choreographer and dancer Chandana Wickremasinghe in a leading role.
Directed by Premakumara Jayawardene the miniplay is produced by Hasitha Thalagampola and Sumithra Rahubadda herself.
Having scripted award winning and high-rating teledramas like 'Bumuthurunu', 'Sura Asura', '666' and 'Dala Rala Pela', 'Iti Pahan', 'Sedona, Rangasoba' and 'Pipi Pium' , Sumithra's latest ‘Kuwera Wara’ a story based on a factual incident is revolved around an ambitious man who becomes a financial success but loses his moral standards.
'Kuwera Wara' discusses the issue of domestic violence and various hardships faced by women.
Well known choreographer Chandana Wickremasinghe is in his debut performance playing the lead role of Padman Jayasena the businessman.
Padman is a go-getter when it comes to money and wealth. Determined to become rich and successful his motivation and expertise in management helps him to reach his goal. While his shrewdness helps him to reach what he wants, his girl friend Anoli played by Damitha Abeyratne supports him being behind everything he does.
She even mortgages her property and makes many sacrifices to support Padman. Climbing the social ladder Padman tries to get into high class society with its customs and traditions. He wants to learn social dancing and there he meets 'Swapna' (Osadee Hewamadduma) a young girl who works as the instructor. Getting interested in this young beauty Padman decides to give up Anoli and gets married to Swapna.
But Anoli is not ready to give him up so easily. However Padman gets married to Swapna but their marriage continues with problems. Swapna becomes a prisoner in Padman's house and he continues to lead his free life.
While undergoing an agonizing experience in the marriage Swapna gets friendly with Sudath, a regular visitor to Padman's house and elopes with him. Padman using his money and power gets her back and locks her up in his house for three months.
She is even harrased in the presence of her daughter. When she finally gets out of her prison she is in a state of mental imbalance. What will the future hold for Swapna, Anoli and even Padman? Watch Kuwera Wara telecast every Saturday at 9.20 pm on ITN.
Others in the cast include Semini Iddamalgoda, Thesara Jayawardena Cyril Dharmawardene, Malini Weeramuni, Malkanthi Ranwala, Rupa Gomas, Ruwani Perera, Saman Almeida, Suranga Perera and child artiste Kushmanthi and artistes from Anoja Weerasinghe's Abhina Group.
In the technical team Sunil Perera handles the camera, art director Manjula Ayagama, still photograph by Pradeep Bulathsinghala and edited by Manjula Malwaththa. Music is handled by Navaratne Gamage and the theme song is sung by Deepika Priyadharshani Peiries.
