Let’s make no bones about it—he shall be crowned, my unsung hero!

By Rypvanwinkle

Mahinda maama summons Pillayan before the election.
“Can I count on your support?” Mahinda maama asks.
“And what will I get in return?” Pillayan wants to know.
“I will make you the Chief Minister if you can win the most number of members for me…” Mahinda maama assures.
“Then I will certainly support you…” Pillayan says.
Pillayan goes away a happy man and asks his supporters to start campaigning straight away.
Mahinda maama then summons Hizbullah.
“Can I count on your support?” Mahinda maama asks.
“And what will I get in return?” Hizbullah wants to know.
“I will make you the Chief Minister if you can win the most number of members for me…” Mahinda maama assures.
“Then I will certainly support you…” Hizbullah says.
Hizbullah goes away a happy man and asks his supporters to start campaigning straight away.
Now it is after the election. Pillayan visits Mahinda maama.
“I want to become Chief Minister…” he reminds Mahinda Maama.
“I’ll see what I can do…” Mahinda maama says.
“Why do you say that?” Pillayan asks, “remember, you promised me the Chief Minister’s post…”
“Yes, I did,” Mahinda mama says, “but now Hizbullah is asking for the same post…”
Pillayan walks away in anger.
Next, Hizbullah visits Mahinda maama.
“I want to become Chief Minister…” he reminds Mahinda Maama.
“I’ll see what I can do…” Mahinda maama says.
“Why do you say that?” Hizbullah asks, “remember, you promised me the Chief Minister’s post…”
“Yes, I did,” Mahinda mama says, “but now Pillayan is asking for the same post…”
Hizbullah walks away in anger.
Mahinda maama devises a plan. He calls both Pillayan and Hizbullah.
“I would like to appoint both of you as Chief Ministers…” he declares.
“But you can’t do that…” both Pillayan and Hizbullah say.
“I know that,” Mahinda maama says, “so you can take turns at the job; one can be the Chief Minister for a year and then the other can be the Chief Minister for the next year…”
“And who will be the Chief Minister for the first year?” both Pillayan and Hizbullah ask.
“Ah,” says Mahinda maama, “that is something you have to decide among yourselves…”
“No”, both Pillayan and Hizbullah say, “we can’t agree to that…”
“Then I have only one other option…” Mahinda maama says.
“And what is that?” both Pillayan and Hizbullah ask.
“I will have to keep my promise…” Mahinda maama says.
“And which promise is that?” both Pillayan and Hizbullah want to know.
“Why,” Mahinda maama recalls, “remember, I promised to appoint the person who is most responsible for our winning the election, as the Chief Minister…”
“Yes,” Pillayan says. “ it should be me…”
“No,” Hizbullah says. “it should be me…”
“No, it is neither of you,” Mahinda maama says.
“Then who is it?” both Pillayan and Hizbullah ask.
“Then,” Mahinda maama says, “the person I would have to appoint as Chief Minister would be Dayananda Dissanayake…”
Both Pillayan and Hizbullah know they cannot disagree with that.
