Commonwealth law conference in Colombo
Sri Lanka will host the Commonwealth Legal Education Association’s regional conference from June 26 to 28 in Colombo.
Organisers say the theme of the conference is "Legal Education Towards Value Based System of Law" and participants will explore avenues by which values can be integrated into the legal education curriculum.
A student conference will also be held on the sidelines of the conference to give an opportunity for law students of South Asia to interact and discover the strategies of meeting challenges, the organizers say.
Those who are interested in presenting papers at the upcoming regional conference in Colombo should send in the abstract typed on an A4 sheet before May 30 to the Secretary, Organising Committee.
The length of each presentation is 15 A4 sheets and it should be e-mailed to locwal@slt.lk.
The conference will deal with topics such as ‘Commercial Law: Corporate Social Responsibility’; ‘Human Rights: Right to Health, Right to Education’; ‘Environmental Law: Sustainable Development and Global Warming’; ‘Clinical Legal Education: Ethics of the Profession’; ‘Jurisprudential Argument: Incorporation of Values and/or Teachings from different Religions into the Legal System’; ‘Alternate Dispute Resolution, Mediation and the Value Based Village Tribunals’; ‘Solving and Preventing Disputes: A Lawyer's Role’; and ‘Role of the Judge: Adversorial, Inquisitorial or an Alternative System’.
