This weekend, the Hotel Galadari is full of beautiful women gathered together for one unique event. Among them are Miss India for Miss World Parvathy Omanakkuttan, Miss India for Miss Earth Tanvi Vyas and Indian actress Neha Gupta.
These top international models, in Sri Lanka for the first time, are part of the attraction of the Colombo Fashion Statement Weekend now happening at the Hotel Galadari.
Sipping thambili through straws, Parvathy and Tanvi gaze longingly through the wide windows of the California Grill at the Galle Face shoreline and the sea beyond. "I've been staring at that from the hotel room all morning," Parvathy sighs, adding that "the schedule is just too tight to go visit."
These two reigning Indian beauty queens joined by our own Aruni Rajapakshe and Maria Colombage took the ramp on Saturday evening to model extravagant saris designed by European designers such as Lecoanet Hemant at the Hotel Galadari.
They will be on the catwalk again this evening, displaying the creations of Indian designers Satya Paul and Shobha De.They will return to their busy schedules of international events at the end of the weekend, having contributed to a worthy cause - the Green Cover Project of The Rotary Club of Colombo Regency supported by the Tourism Development Authority, aimed at planting ten million trees in five years all around Sri Lanka.
